Summer Camp

Every day we receive information about another Ukrainian family that has returned after leaving the country due to the full-scale invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine. They return to liberated but uncleared territories, partially restored cities, villages, and towns. The majority of these families are returning because they were unable to integrate properly into society in their new country of residence. The children have not adapted well to the new school environment and are stressed due to the unfamiliar surroundings, separation from familiar environments, and friends. Understanding this problem, our foundation opened a school for Ukrainian children in Wrocław in September 2022, where their educational needs are met (children are taught according to the educational standards and programs of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine), and conditions are created for a smoother integration into the local community. They learn the Polish language, traditions, culture, and history, and our foundation's psychologists have been working with them throughout the year.

Now that summer has arrived, many parents who are trying their best to survive in the new country face a new challenge: what to do with their children during summer vacation? The children cannot simply "stay at home." They need care, education, and entertainment. Sending them "to the grandmother in the village"? But they are in Poland, and the grandmother is in Ukraine. The majority of parents cannot afford to send their children to a paid summer camp. In Wrocław, a week of summer day camp for a child costs 500 zlotys. For many parents who have to pay rent, buy food and clothing for the whole family, this is a significant amount. Especially if the child is not alone (for example, several children from large families attend our school). In order to provide children with an alternative to the option of "sending them to Ukraine for the summer because we have no other choice," we want to establish a summer day camp for these children based on the school. In this camp, children will not only be able to relax but also catch up on necessary subjects, participate in interest-based activities, and receive psychological support. In addition to regular psychological assistance, thanks to the initiative of our Israeli colleagues, our psychologists have a unique opportunity to conduct a Hibuki therapy camp. This unique method was developed by Israeli psychologists for children who have experienced war trauma. Working with this therapeutic toy allows the child to process their trauma, regain a sense of safety and care. In order to implement this activity, our psychologists, together with teachers, have received training in this methodology and are ready to help the children.

During the operation of our camp (from July 3rd to August 25th), we will be able to accommodate over 400 Ukrainian children.

We are reaching out to you for assistance in implementing this project. Help us make this summer safe and enjoyable for Ukrainian children!
